Measures for transportation of liquids and gels

Safety measures for transportation of liquids and gels

On November 6, 2006 the company Letisko M. R. Štefánika – Airport Bratislava, a. s. (BTS) has adopted new rules for the passengers during execution of the security check. The objective of stricter security checks is enhancement of the protection of passengers against the threat of terrorism. The new rules are resulting from the decree of the European Commission N° 1546, where the decree complements particularly the list of prohibited items in the cabin baggage (such as the weapons, explosives, chemical substances, etc.)

by the transportation of liquids and gels.

The passengers can take with themselves to the board of the plane only such liquids and gels which meet the limitations defined in the decree or those they have purchased in the airport shops behind the point of the security control. Under the term liquids and gels the following items are understood: different beverages, soups, perfumes, syrups, aerosols, but also the tooth-pastes, gels for hair, etc. The limitations concern the volume of liquids and gels for personal needs, which the passengers can take with them to the board. The maximum volume of one packaging is 100 millilitres (1 decilitre) and the passengers must have this package wrapped in transparent closable bag with the maximum volume of one litre. The bags are available at the airport, by the personnel at dispatching desks (check-in desks). So the passengers are required to place all liquids and gels for personal needs, e.g. the medicaments, ointments or drops, into these bags yet before they are dispatched. The passengers are recommended to bring the bags prepared in this way for the security check in hand and to handle them over for the check separately. In this way the passengers will concur to speedy and optimal execution of security check.

An exemption are the liquids meant to be consumed during the flight, supposing it is needed due to the passenger's health state or the necessity such as taking of medicaments or nourishment to infants. However, in such case the passenger must present the physician's report, physician's recommendation, or to prove the need of liquids for personal need otherwise.
The passengers are requested to behave orderly, to observe these regulations, and to be ready for dispatching procedure in advance. Should the passengers not obey these regulations, the personnel of the detection check will not allow them to board the plane, or they can be excluded from the air transport. Due to this reason all passengers are recommended to place the liquids inside their checked (registered) baggage yet before coming to the check-in desk. The passengers can also purchase liquids in shops behind the security check and to take them with them to the board of the plane, in such case already an unlimited volume, since these liquids have been checked in the sense of the airport's security program.

The new regulations are uniform for all airports of the EU, including Island, Norway and Switzerland.
