Prohibited items

Terms definition:

Prohibited item: an item that can be used to commit an act of unlawful interference, which has not been properly declared and represents an item, to which laws and legal rules apply to.
Cabin baggage: the maximum weight can be 5 kg and the maximum dimensions 56 x 45 x 25 cm. Such baggage must meet the requirement of specified dimensions so that in the plane it could be placed in box over the seat or below the seat.
Checked baggage: the passenger does not have it during the flight by him, but it is being transported separately in the plane's baggage compartment. The passenger shall hand over this baggage during the commercial dispatching at the check-in desk. The standard checked baggage is the baggage with other dimensions than the below specified standard dimensions of baggage max.: 90x70x50cm and min.: 30x20x10 cm. The baggage with larger or smaller dimensions must be registered at the M.R. Štefánika Airport as an outsize baggage.

  1. Firearms: each arm, which enables to fire a shot by means of explosive force. E.g. all types of firearms, replicas and imitations of firearms, toy arms of all kinds, bows, slings, weapons shooting sharp objects, cigarette lighters with the appearance of arm.
  2. Pointed / edged weapons and sharp objects: Sharp or sharpened objects capable to cause injury. E.g. knife with lockable blade or switchblade regardless of knife blade length, knives including ceremonial (ceremonial knives, collectible knives, knives which are part of a national or other costume), free razor-blades and razors (except disposable shavers with razor-blade in closed sheath), scissor, craftsmen tools potentially utilisable as sharp or edged weapons such as drills of all kinds, screwdrivers, crowbars, hammers, tongs, wrenches (spanners, blowlamps).
  3. Dull objects: All dull objects capable to cause injury. E.g. baseball and softball bats, golf clubs, hockey-sticks, billiard cues, fish rods.
  4. Explosive and flammable substances: All explosive or highly flammable substances, which represent a risk for passengers or crew health or for the plane safety or for the property. E.g. fireworks, flares in all forms and other pyrotechnics including those for entertainment and those in form of toys, alcoholic beverages with more than 70% of volume units, flammable liquids, e.g. petrol, diesel, liquid igniters, alcohol, ethanol, detonators and fuses, gases and gas cylinders, e.g. butane, propane, acetylene, oxygen – in large quantities.
  5. Chemical and toxic substances: All chemical or toxic substances, which represent a risk for passengers or crew health or for the plane safety or for the property. E.g. the acids, caustic materials, e.g. leaking "wet" accumulators, stunning sprays, e.g. mace, pepper spray, tear gas, poisons, material capable of spontaneous inflammation or burning.

The list of prohibited items that are excluded from the air transport and which must not be placed in registered (checked) baggage of the passenger:

E.g.: Explosives, gases, inflammable liquids, substances and materials, organic peroxides, toxic or contagious substances, radioactive materials, etching substances, parts of vehicles fuel systems, which contain fuel.

Prohibited items most often taken away from the passenger or found in his/her cabin baggage:
  • Manicure set (containing sharp and pointed objects) pocket-knives (regardless of the blade's length)
  • screwdrivers (regardless of their size)
  • cutlery (knife and fork)
  • the "Swiss" cards (part of which are sharp and pointed objects)
  • razor-blades and trimmer
  • iron cast and forged elements of different size and shape
  • tools (wrenches, hammers, nails)
