The airport runway and taxiway system is represented by two perpendicularly intersecting runways and taxiways. This system enables landing of all airliners commonly used around the world – from the smallest, single-engine aircrafts up to the type Boeing 747 aircrafts. The runway 04-22 is 2 900 m long and 60 m wide. It is equipped with lighting and radio navigation systems for exact approach under ICAO minimum meteorological conditions of category I. The runway 13-31 is 3 190 m long and 45 m wide. It is equipped with lighting and radio navigation systems for exact approach under ICAO minimum meteorological conditions of category III A. Both runways are provided with cement-concrete surfacing. There are 27 stands situated within the apron area (approx. 125 000 m2). Due to the sufficient capacity and technological equipment it is possible to compare the airport with the common European standard.
Terminal for passengers consists of three, technologically interconnected, parts: the departure terminal (building A – the year of putting in service 1970), the arrival terminal B (the year of putting in service 1994) and the arrival terminal C (the year of putting in service 06/2006). The departure terminal serves for international as well as domestic flights. There are fast food and restaurant facilities, shops, bank and exchange office premises and offices of air carriers, situated in this terminal. There are 18 check-in desks, with the dispatching system CUTE installed in them and a new transport system with 100% control of checked-in baggage from the company EAS, available to dispatch the passengers. One check-in desk for large-size baggage is situated here as well. A complex airport information system (CAIS) supplied by the company LYNX has been installed by the end of the year in order to provide information to the passengers as well as in order to optimize the operation activities. The first floor of the old departure terminal is connected with the terminal newer part by means of a corridor, where there are 9 gates and the Airline Business Club situated. The purpose of the arrival terminal is to receive the arriving passengers. The terminal capacity is 2 million passengers per year. For dispatching the passengers and crews of General Aviation and aircrews serves the General Aviation Terminal (GAT). The GAT is situated in the Operation and Administration facility at the facility of the Air Division of the Ministry of Interior of the SR. The lounge for the V.I.P. passengers on the first floor is part of the GAT as well.
The air traffic control tower was put in operation in 1998. The tower location ensures an optimal view on airport runways and operation (manoeuvring) areas and fits into the overall concept of its future development. Together with the most advanced technical and technological equipment it contributes to the safety and economic efficiency of air traffic. The performance of activities in this facility is provided for by the personnel of the state-owned enterprise Letové prevádzkové služby (Air Traffic Services - ATS).
Aircraft fuel storage facilities were completed in September 1997. They were put into service one year later. The storage volume consists of 6 upright tanks with the total capacity of 3 220 m3, which are placed in reinforced-concrete, chemically isolated, basin. In new storage facilities it is possible to store even several types of petroleum products. An approach road and a railway siding (delivery track) within the line section "railway station Podunajské Biskupice – aircraft fuel storage facilities" have been constructed to provide access to storage facilities. It has two tracks within the racking plant, whereas it is possible to rack the fuel from truck tanks as well. Complete services with regard to fuelling of aircrafts at the airport are provided for by the company ESSO Slovensko.
The fire station at the intersection of runway system was completed in 1995. The more advantageous location within the airport premises enables to meet the requirement of the recommended time limit arising from the ICAO regulation, namely 3 minutes for reaching the farthest threshold of runways. Among others, the station is equipped with special fire-fighting vehicle Protector C-4, supplied by the company SIMON ACCESS. Remarkable is the pump capacity - 7 000 litres of water per minute. The vehicle reaches the acceleration from 0 to 80 kilometres per hour in 40 seconds. The airport is classed in fire category 7, on demand 2 hours in advance, in higher category – category 8.
The phyto-sanitary centre for entry of goods of vegetal or animal origin to the SR was put in service in May 2004. It represents the first facility of the CARGO complex being prepared. The phyto-sanitary and veterinary inspections of plants, vegetal products, animal products as well as live animals imported from extra-European countries is being provided for by the Štátna veterinárna a potravinová správa SR (National Veterinary and Food Authorities of the SR).
